Sun Valley Saddle Club Vaulting
No matter age or ability, whether a youngster just starting out, or an experienced rider looking to refine their connection and seat, vaulting has something to offer every horse lover!
Vaulting is a great way to introduce riding. Due to the nature of a good vaulting horse and the function of the specialty equipment, new riders will start with confidence. Riders with years of experience will also benefit as they learn to ride with better balance. Sounds Scary? Well it shouldn't! Vaulting is THE safest equestrian sport. Vaulting has a better safety record than riding a bike or playing baseball! Most commonly defined Vaulting is the art and sport of gymnastics on the back of a moving horse. Vaulting also has many elements similar to dance, ice skating , and other equestrian activities. The concept of vaulting is to mount a moving horse, perform a delicate gymnastics routine, and then gracefully dismount. Similar to ice skating or gymnastics, vaulting has both compulsory events and a freestyle routine set to music. Vaulters can compete in individual, pairs, and team events on the national and international level. Why are helmets not worn when Vaulting? Studies have shown that helmets are not necessary when Vaulting. In fact, due to the gymnastic nature of vaulting, wearing helmets can actually increase the risk of injury to the vaulters and horse.
